IMPACT STORY

Over the winter, very few recreational activities exist for kids with disabilities, especially for kids in a wheelchair. George, a Track3 graduate and now a yellow jacket volunteer, described feeling stuck during the winter seasons “I was basically at home all the time before joining Track3.’’ George enrolled in the Track3 program when he was six years old and has been involved ever since. He describes his experience with the program as being truly transformative. “The volunteers really care about you, they provide mentorship beyond skiing or snowboarding, and I felt like I was part of a community.’’ Through the Track3 program, George was able to become closer with his family “we now have family days out skiing.’’ Without the guidance and support he received from Track3, he doesn't think it would have been possible to learn to ski. He now showcases his skills on the slopes, allowing his peers and others to see that despite being in a wheelchair, he can participate in the same activities as everyone else. George is now an actor and the first-ever actor in a wheelchair to complete professional training in Canada. Being an outgoing individual naturally, George feels the program helped him become independent and take more risks in life. ‘’I definitely believe the Track3 program helped me open up and not be afraid to pursue my goals.’’  George has made many lifelong friends and memories over the years as a Track3 student and now volunteer and says the program helped shape who he is today.

A gift can help make a lifelong impact on more kids like George
